About me
I got my bachelors in mechanical engineering from Cal Poly SLO, then built manufacturing lines at Apple for 7 years. As Technical Program Manager, I designed and scaled assembly lines at Apple's Final Assembly Test and Packaging (FATP) sites.
Here are some iconic products I've had the wonderful opportunity of working on:
- AirPods Pro (as TPM)
- AirPods Max (as lead TPM)
- AirPods 3 (as lead TPM and AME)
- AirPods 4 (as lead TPM)
- iPhone 14 (as module SQE)
- Apple TV Remote (as supporting TPM)
The most challenging project I experienced was bringing up a manufacturing site from scratch in the span of a year. Think of going from four walls and a bunch of strangers inside, to building thousands of products a day in 12 months. This was done while managing New Product Introduction (NPI) on one of the most mechanically complex products Apple has launched, the AirPods Max.
I then broadened my operational experience with a rotation as Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to automate packaging lines in 2021, and another rotation as a Supply Quality Engineer in 2022 to develop a reflectance tester for screening camera modules.
In 2022-23 I led a team of 5 process and manufacturing engineers to develop the AirPods 4 line. We significantly reduced unit cost by targeting labor, capex, consumable, attrition, and material savings.
Currently I'm pursuing a masters in CS in London. I believe factories are on track to becoming even more digitalized and automated. So, the software stack of a factory will be an increasingly significant factor in achieving higher yields and throughput through self-correction.
